We had a blast today sharing what makes us unique or special. We had a wide range of talents shared with the class! It was a great afternoon!

We celebrated our great work in kindergarten with a picnic lunch. Unfortunately the wind was so strong that we had our lunch inside. We still had a blast.
The National Parks foundation just announced that all 4th graders will receive free entrance to ANY national park during the 2015-2016 school year. I know some of you will have a 4th grader next year and I hope you take advantage of this awesome opportunity. You can find more information about this at the link below:
http://www.nationalparks.org/ook/every-kid-in-a-park Our third grade buddies came to visit us today and we learned how to play games from the past. In kindergarten we had already learned that televisions, computers, and games that require batteries did not exist long ago. Instead children had to play with the things around them and use their imaginations. We learned how to play "Poor Doggie," Handkerchief and Nim. Nim is a math strategy game that is fun to play and requires the use of strategy. Here are the directions for the games: Here is one more that we did not play with our buddies but you can try at home if you want.
Today we took a break from solving story problems to play a new math game. We used our math number cards (but playing cards with the Jack, King, Queen and Ace removed can work) to play 10 Go Fish! This is a go fish game but instead of making matches you are making 10. The kinders had a blast playing with their friends and reviewing the different ways to make 10. You can ask your kinder to tell you two different ways to make 10 or play the game at home!
We went on our FIRST field trip to Rose Hill Manor. Rose Hill Manor is a historic home in Maryland. During the field trip the class was separated into two groups. Each group visited the same locations but at different times. The kinders were able to visit an ice house, blacksmith shop, children's bedroom, parlor, kitchen, and log cabin. In each room they saw tools, and examples of items from the past. It gave us lots of background knowledge for our unit on things from the past. In the kitchen we watched how popcorn was made in the past. We even got to try some popcorn! Here are some pictures from the trip. (Note: I was only with one group so my pictures are from that group and do not feature all students.) Our new writing unit is writing persuasively. Today we learned about persuasive writing. We learned that when write persuasively we share our opinion. We identified our opinions on lots of different topics. Here are some examples!
