Today we learned about stretchy snake. We use stretchy snake to help us hear the sounds in words. We stretched out words slowly and then used our ABC strip to write the letters that matched the sounds we hear. Everyone got their own stretchy snake to use during writing workshop. Asked me about stretchy snake!

On Friday, we started learning about clouds. We observed the clouds, shared what we know about clouds and asked questions. Here is the start of our cloud KWL chart.
We learned that sorting is when you find objects that are alike and put them together in a group. We analyzed buttons and came up with lots of ways to sort them. We collaborated with our buddy to put the buttons into groups.
We sorted by: Color Shape Size Number of holes Fancy and not fancy More than one color and only one color What other ways can you think of?? Today we read How to Lose All Your Friends by Nancy Carlson. After reading the story we came up with a list of things we can do to make or keep our friends. Here are our ideas!
Today we learned about self-control. We learned when we use self-control we control our bodies. This means we use an inside voice, we use our words with our friends, and we raise our hand to share. (Just to list a few!) We practiced using self-control! We kept our bodies still and didn't pop bubbles as they fell on us. It was super hard but the kinders did a great job!! We read Clark the Shark and noticed what happens when you don't use self-control. You can ask your kinder what happened to Clark when he wasn't using self-control. We are going to BE COOL in kindergarten!! Here is a funny song about self-control. On Friday, each kindergartener got a t-shirt. We are very excited about these t-shirts and want to give a special thank you to the PTA for purchasing these shirts for us. We hope these shirts promote BMES kinder spirit. They are great to wear on Friday for spirit days. We learned about collaboration. When we collaborate we work together to get things done. Here we are collaborating! Here are the final puzzles put together. (The five group has a little trouble gluing but mistakes are allowed here!) We will keep them hanging up in the room to remind us that room 125 COLLABORATES!!
Today we learned about being responsible. We identified ways we can be responsible at school. Ask your kinder to tell you one way he/she can be responsible at school.
We are learning about the our school rules. We learned that Bells Mill students are responsible, respectful and caring at all times. Today we learned what it means to be caring. We read the book Have You Filled A Bucket Today and talked about ways we can be caring. The book suggests that everyone has an invisible bucket they carry around that holds their good feelings. When you do good things you fill someone else's bucket and your own. When you are unkind you dip someones bucket spilling their good feelings. |
