Today we got together with our third grade buddies. We sang winter songs together and had a blast! Make sure to ask your kinder about their favorite song. Happy Holidays and best wishes for the New Year!!!
It must be the age we live in (or maybe its this blog) but the kinders are always asking me to take pictures of their work. A favorite request is for pictures of block structures. A few weeks ago some friends asked me to take a picture of their block tower. After taking that picture, I snapped a few more of the kinders during our afternoon (or free choice) centers.
A few weeks ago we started our daily independent reading time. During this time kindergarteners select two books from their "familiar basket" and one from the class library. Familiar baskets hold books that they have read in reading groups. These are books they are familiar with and can read on their own. Most days we spend ten or so minutes reading in a comfortable place. It was so exciting to watch the kinders today! They are readers! Each kinder is really starting to feel like a reader and show enjoyment in this. It was wonderful to see. Here are some pictures of us reading!
We are working on reading and writing words with the ot chunk. Today we thought fluently to come up with as many words as possible. We even created some make believe words!
Today we had a guidance lesson with Mrs. Kanter. We learned about I messages. We learned that these are a way we can talk to a friend that is bothering us. (These messages are simplified from what you might be familiar with to keep them clear and short and easy for the kinders to use!) We practiced using I messages with Mrs. Kanter. We are going to try to use them in class when we have a conflict or problem. I messages are for kid size problems. If someone is being aggressive or hurting us we ALWAYS get an adult! Here are some examples of I messages.
Today we learned about the different plant parts. We also learned that we eat the different parts of the plant. The kindergarteners were shocked to learn that some of the things they eat are roots, or stems or flowers!!
