We are working on adding sounds to our writing. We are using stretchy snake to help us say words slowly and listen for sounds. The kinders were so excited to realize that they are AUTHORS! They will be bringing home a story to share with you. Make sure to ask them to read it to you and celebrate the sounds they are hearing and writing. Building up their confidence will help them to write more and the more they are using these skills the better they will be!! You can encourage writing at home by having special paper and writing utensils for kindergarteners. You can also have them help to write the grocery list or make a plan for a play date. Here are some examples of what our writing looks like...

We had a great time celebrating the first fill up of our compliment jar. Here are some pictures of the fun! We are working on identifying attributes. Each day during math workshop we work on sorting objects, counting and collaborating. Check out the pictures of us hard at work! Today we learned about self-control. Self-control is when we control our bodies. We took the bubble challenge. Miss. Matthews' didn't believe that we could control our bodies and NOT pop bubbles! Boy, was I surprised. You can see the class controlling their bodies and NOT popping the bubbles. We wanted to share with your this wonderful example of our self-control. Some of the bubbles were right by our hands and faces and we STILL didn't pop them!
Kindergarteners are doing a super job during literacy centers. Technology center and read around the room are the most popular but everyone is taking turns and collaborating! Here is a quick peek at us hard at work. Yesterday we started to learn about weather. Today we read the book Come On Rain! and used our five senses to describe rain. Here is what we came up with...
Today we had our first lock down and shelter in place drill. You can ask your kinder to tell you what they do during these drills.
Note to parents: I keep the reason for these drills light. For our lock down drill we practice this to be safe in school. The shelter drill is to prepare us if there is something outside of school that might be dangerous. (Some kinders made a connection to the bear that was seen around the area last year.) Happy Tuesday! At back to school night I sympathized with you all on how hard it is to find out about your kinders day. Not sure if this will change much, but it certainly cannot hurt. Here is a great link on questions you can ask your kinder to learn more about what happened at school.
Last Friday the teachers at Bells Mill accepted the Ice Bucket Challenge. Below is the video of the e We finished our first full week of kindergarten! Today we worked on collaborating. This was a difficult task for us, because we had so many different ideas. We learned that in order to collaborate we must first... 1. share our thinking 2. listen to others 3. plan with our group 4. take turns and share 5. be kind Here are some pictures of us collaborating! |
