This week we learned about zendoodles (or zentangles). This is an easy and fun art technique that we are using the help us being more mindful. To create this art the kinders first had to create a border (many chose to use the heart border I had pre-created). Then you draw a string, a line from one side to the other. From there you start to make tangles. There is no wrong way to do this. While working on this we focused on thinking about the lines we were drawing and clearing our mind. The purpose is to help us relax and to also increase our creativity, persistence, focus, and originality. Here are some of our first attempts!!
Today we learned a new way to retell a story. This strategy helps us to organize our thoughts, identify the important information and limit the details we share in our retelling. (Many kinders attempt to tell every single thing that happened in the story!) You can use this strategy at home after reading a story together.
Yesterday we played Fill the Hexagon! We used rhombuses, triangles, and trapezoids to fill in a hexagon outline. We learned all the different ways to create a hexagon. We used persistence to fill the hexagons. We learned that you can combine shapes to make new shapes. You can ask your kinder
Today we talked more about persistence. We watched a great video (shared by Miss. Wolfe) about a girl wanting to grow bean sprouts. After watching the video we discussed whether or not the girl showed persistence. We all agreed that she was persistent. We shared what she did that was persistent. After watching the video we worked with a buddy to solve shape puzzles. We were persistent and kept trying NEW ways to solve the puzzle. It is so hard to believe that we have spent 100 days together. The kindergarteners continue to grow and surprise me everyday. We made sure to celebrate what wonderful students we are during our 100th day! Here are some pictures of our collections. Our third grade Bear Cub Buddies came to see our collections and they helped us to make some groovy sunglasses! |
