Over the past few weeks we have been reading a series of books about feelings and how to deal with them. Today we read about anger. We learned different ways we can handle anger. Here are some of the strategies we learned:

today we learned about blends. We learned about r blends. We read a poem and found the r blends. You can have your kinder read the poem to you!
We practiced making words with short u. We thought fluently to come up with as many words as we could. Here is the list of short u words we created together. You can make sure your kinder can read these words!
We identified the different body coverings of animals. We collaborated and sorted animals by their body coverings. Here are some pictures of us working together.
This week we focused on all the different ways to make 10. We learned there are ELEVEN ways we can make 10. Today we learned that the numbers can make a rainbow. Here is our number rainbow. Ask your kinder to tell you how it shows the different ways to make ten.
Today we completed another STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) activity. Last week we created a 3D solid out of clay. We needed to create a way to get the solid shape home safely. We studied different containers and shared our observations. We made a list of the things our container might have: a lid, handles, a solid bottom, and not too much space for the object to move around. Many kindergarteners noticed that containers tend to be 3D solids and used that to help design and create their own. The kinders created a plan and shared it with the class. We gave feedback on the different designs. Then the kinders identified which materials they would use to create their container. After distributing the materials the kinders were off and creating! They learned quickly that it was important to be PERSISTENT! After creating a container, the kinders tested it and made changes to improve it. It was so fun to watch them work and really interesting to see the designs they created. (I hope they all made it home safe!!!) Note: If your kinder did not bring it home today that means they are still working on it. Today Mr. Drazen came to talk to us about being an oceanographer. We learned that there are lots of different kinds of oceanographers. (There is lots to study in the ocean.) We learned that Mr. Drazen studies waves. We learned about waves and gravity. The kinders really enjoyed learning about this career.
Today we visited the mobile science lab. We learned that Montgomery County has tons of farms!! We planted two soy bean seeds. We are going to watch them grow. Our seed needs to stay warm. We brought it home so that we can take care of it at home. (Our classroom gets very cold at night!) Here are some pictures of us in the lab. Today we celebrated Read Across America. We learned about Dr. Seuss and his many wonderful books. We read The Cat in the Hat and talked about the choices the characters made. We shared what we would do if we were the characters in the story... Would we tell our Mom the truth?!?!?
We checked out Dr. Seuss' website to learn about his life. We looked at some of the events on the timeline. You can check our more of his life here: http://www.seussville.com/#/author You can also explore his website here: http://www.seussville.com/ In the afternoon we read with our Third Grade Buddies! Here we are having a blast! Today we reviewed adjectives, nouns and verbs. We also learned about LEAP DAY! We completed our first MadLib in honor of Leap Day! You can check it out here...
